Are we okay?

I had to travel for work this week so I was in Atlanta. I was there for the momentous voting. I was also there for the terrorist attack on the Capitol.

It was already a tense trip because we are in the middle of a pandemic and I was traveling for work. My family and friends weren’t happy about it and then we up the ante with the worry of reactions due to the election. Then worry about spill over violence from what happened at the Capitol.

It was a strange week. I am home now and watching the History of Swear Words with Nicholas Cage who appropriately enough I have seen memed so many times this week as well.

It has felt like the last few years I have been hoping for time to speed up because of other people’s poor choices and bad behavior. And I realized this week how many times I kept thinking, we just need to get through January, just get through January. 2020 was horrible but we all knew January would just be the hang over of 2020 and maybe, we can get things working again.

The stock market definitely can’t wait, the more push to get Trump out the higher it goes which is the first time I have seen that happen with a Democrat elected President or got a majority. Yet, here we are. The active military voted majority blue. Two areas so well know for being Republican just can’t anymore.

There is so much about all of this that makes me so sad. A deep sadness in my bones. And realizing that I am wishing my life away wanting for the world to change makes it even sadder.

But what was reassuring was that while in Atlanta, nothing happened.

The vote happened, giving the Democrats a majority and nothing other than the ads stopped.

But people went on. Those I talked to, Lyft drivers, at the airport, waiter, etc. they all seemed happy about the vote but it was more relief that it was decided. They all seemed to have the sense that things will stabilize soon.

And I take comfort in that. If an area hit hard this year from so many different directions can look positively onto the next year, why can’t I.

To quote my Lyft driver. Just got enjoy the day you’re living because tomorrow’s never guaranteed.
